Government Executive: Mike Pompeo, head of the Central Intelligence Agency, made a secret visit to North Korea over Easter weekend and met with its leader Kim Jong-un, the Washington Post has reported, citing two officials.
The news of the visit came after US president Donald Trump said Tuesday that the U.S. is in “high level” talks with North Korea, speaking from his Florida resort, Mar-a-Lago, where he is hosting Japanese prime minister Shinzo Abe. Pompeo, who is also Trump’s nominee to be his next secretary of state, was laying the groundwork for talks between Trump and Kim that could take place as soon as May or June this year. If they happen, it would be a first between leaders of the US and North Korea.
