After federal employee insurance website crashes, procrastinators get reprieve

The Washington Post: The government has temporarily extended the open enrollment season for the vision and dental benefits program for federal employees, after a website crashed on Monday, officially the last day for signing up or changing coverage.

In the Federal Dental and Vision Insurance Program, federal employees and retirees may choose dental coverage, vision coverage or both for themselves and certain eligible family members. The enrollee pays the full cost.

“The dental and vision enrollment website, BENEFEDS.com, is currently undergoing repairs due to technical issues, however, the call center (1-877-888-3337) is open until midnight on Wednesday, December 14, 2016, Eastern Time to process FEDVIP changes. Those wishing to enroll or make changes can do so by calling the call center,” the Office of Personnel Management said in a notice to agencies Monday evening.
