The Wall Street Journal (online registration required): WASHINGTON—The Federal Trade Commission on Thursday released first-ever guidelines on its authority to police “unfair” competition, giving businesses more clarity on actions that could invite scrutiny from antitrust authorities.
The FTC’s policy statement outlines basic principles the commission will use when it considers taking action under Section 5 of the 1914 FTC Act, which says “unfair methods of competition in or affecting commerce” are illegal.
