The New York Times: A Senate hearing examining the federal agency that oversees car safety will feature testimony from government officials, safety advocates and a representative from the automobile industry.The hearing, chaired by Senator Claire McCaskill, Democrat of Missouri, is planned for Tuesday, and will delve into the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s implementation and enforcement of vehicle safety laws, as well as the agency’s handling of the crisis that has engulfed General Motors. The company has recalled more than 29 million cars since January and failed for more than a decade to report to regulators and the public a defective ignition that has been linked to 13 deaths.
