The Wall Street Journal (online registration required): Congress’s 29-member budget conference committee, which is being met with a mixture of high hopes and low expectations, will gather for the first time on Wednesday, Oct. 30, setting in motion a six-week ordeal that could frame Washington’s budget debate for the rest of the year.
The panel, led by House Budget Committee Chairman Paul Ryan (R., Wis.) and Senate Budget Committee Chairman Patty Murray (D., Wash.), is tasked with reconciling differences between House and Senate budget resolutions passed earlier this year. They have a December 13 deadline.
