Senate Panel Approves Labor Nominee on Party-Line Vote

The Wall Street Journal (online registration required):President Barack Obama’s nominee to head the Labor Department’s Wage and Hour Division won the Senate labor committee’s approval Wednesday in a party-line vote, clearing the way for his expected confirmation by the full Senate.

All 12 of the committee’s Democrats voted to support David Weil while all 10 Republicans voted against him after raising questions about his qualifications to manage and to enforce the law without promoting unionization.
