Aviation Week: Primarily driven by a frenetic race to mitigate the improvised explosive device (IED) threat in Iraq and Afghanistan, the Pentagon rushed sensors into use on intelligence aircraft, including the Raytheon Airborne Cueing and Exploitation System Hyperspectral (ACES HY) for the General Atomics MQ-1 Predator and BAE Systems Spectral Infrared Imaging Technology Testbed (Spiritt) optimized for use on the high-flying U-2 or Global Hawk.
