The Washington Post: When Christopher A. Wray hired a new deputy at Justice Department headquarters in the summer of 2003, he issued a warning: There could come a moment when they might have to resign rather than carry out an order that violated their sense of the law.
Within a year, that warning proved prophetic.
Wray, then the head of the Justice Department’s criminal division, heard that the higher-ups at the department — including then-Deputy Attorney General James B. Comey and then-FBI Director Robert S. Mueller III — were preparing to resign in a dispute with the Bush administration.
