As Pentagon opens combat jobs to women, ‘deep-seated’ opposition and a checkered past

The Washington Post: Kara Hultgreen and Carey Lohrenz were about to make history. As naval officers and aviators in 1994, they were part of the first class of female fighter pilots in the history of the Navy, and preparing to fly the legendary F-14 Tomcat in combat from an aircraft carrier deploying to the Persian Gulf.
