How Many People Hold Secret Security Clearance?

The Wall Street Journal (online registration required): Aaron Alexis, the deceased suspect in the Navy Yard shootings, was one of about 3.5 million people to hold secret government security clearance, according to the most recent figures from the Office of the Director of National Intelligence. Two thirds of those – about 2.7 million – are government employees. About 580,000 are contractors like Mr. Alexis.
