Government Security News: In an effort to identify one or more commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) radiological/nuclear detection systems that could be used to detect neutron or gamma sources on small vessels, and eliminate the need to board those vessels to inspect them, the Domestic Nuclear Detection Office (DNDO) is soliciting information from prospective suppliers of such devices.
DNDO has established what it calls the “Small Vessel Standoff Detection" (SVSD) mission, whose goal is to “reduce the need to board small vessels when performing the R/N detection mission and mitigate the threat of R/N devices coming through the United States (U.S.) coastal waters on small boats,” says a special notice issued by the DHS chief procurement officer on April 25.
