Officials Praise Progress in Defenses Against Dirty Bombs

Homeland Security Today: First responders performed well in response to the attack on the Boston Marathon April 15, officials told a congressional panel Thursday. They also would have responded well if the improvised explosive devices (IEDs) involved had contained radiological material or some other deadly agent.

Scott McAllister, deputy undersecretary of Intelligence and Analysis (I&A) at the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), hailed Boston's fusion center for a "model" response to the terror attack.
