Route Fifty: Governors and unemployment experts panned the executive order President Trump signed over the weekend to reinstate some supplemental unemployment benefits as an impractical policy that will take too long to implement and require broke states to contribute money they don’t have.
Under the order, unemployed workers would receive $400 a week in federal benefits on top of the usual state-paid benefits. The federal government would fund $300 for the additional payment and the state would be required to cover the remaining $100.
