Argus Leader: Members of a special joint committee restored a bill designed to open up the state’s ballot for third parties to its original form Thursday, in hopes of satisfying a federal judge’s order.
House Bill 1286 would lower the number of signatures needed to form a new party or to petition onto the ballot as either a minor party candidate or an independent.
It also moves back filing deadlines and lets small parties bypass primaries and appoint candidates at a convention.
