Government Technology: Louisiana consumers should get another Christmas where taxes aren't collected on many internet purchases. But after the beginning of the new year, the state hopes to charge taxes for all direct website sales by vendors in other states.
Fewer than six months away, Jan. 1, 2019, is the target date for rolling out the new system allowed in the wake of a June 23 U.S. Supreme Court decision that overturned a 26-year-old ban on local and state taxing of internet sales across state lines.
