Times Union: ALBANY – In a sharp rebuke of Trump administration immigration policies, Gov. Andrew Cuomo on Friday signed an executive order to prohibit state employees and officers from asking people about their immigration status.
There are only narrow exceptions under the order, which says the state will "remain true to the ideals that founded this country, and will continue to welcome immigrants as a source of energy, and celebrate them as a source of revitalization for our state."
Employees and officers are still allowed ask people about their immigration status if it is needed legally or to determine whether they are eligible for a program, benefit or service.
