Where Is State and Local Government Spending the Most on Tech?

Government Technology: According to Government Navigator, the Center for Digital Government’s database, health and human services (HHS) makes up the single largest area of state and local government’s technology spending at $26.4 billion. Right behind that sector is education, which makes up $22.3 billion.

Those two areas of spending are far ahead of any other area of government tech spending — transportation is the third-largest category at $10.3 billion, while funding for environmental and natural resources, public works, public safety and justice, and administrative and finance work all fall within the $7.4 billion to $8.7 billion range, respectively.
