For the next Dallas police chief, it's a whole new landscape

The Dallas Morning News: Retiring Dallas Chief David Brown has seen everything from the 1980s crack epidemic to record low murder rates in his 33 years working for his hometown police department.

Through his more than six years as chief, the policing landscape has changed. The world Brown stepped into in May 2010 isn't the same one his successor will face.

There is now a Black Lives Matter movement that can put police actions on a national stage. Police officers feel like they have targets on their backs. Body cameras are de rigueur and other technology can help solve crimes or potentially tarnish a department's reputation in a day.
