Dallas Morning News: Texas has settled a federal lawsuit that accused the state of making it impossible for many undocumented workers to get copies of birth certificates for their children born in the U.S.
The civil suit was filed last May and swelled to 62 plaintiffs -- including the U.S. citizen children and their foreign-born parents from Mexico, Honduras, Guatemala and El Salvador. In Austin federal court, attorneys from two public interest law firms argued that the families' constitutional rights were being blocked because they couldn’t access the birth certificates.
