Will Chicago’s Cloud Tax Stick?
Government Technology: On June 9, the city of Chicago’s Department of Finance decreed (PDF) a new tax for the city. Labeled an “amusement tax,” a new 9 percent fee applies to services or engagements undertaken for entertainment purposes, both in person and electronically. And because it applies to online, cloud-based services like Netflix, some also have labeled it a “cloud tax."
