Governing: Kids being kids, they sometimes say and do dumb things. It’s part of growing up. But in the age of the Internet, those mistakes can stick around and haunt them. That’s why a new law in California, considered the first of its kind in the country, requires websites to install an “eraser button” so that people younger than 18 can remove their own postings. The bill, which was signed by Gov. Jerry Brown last week, also prohibits targeting minors with online advertisements for dangerous or age-inappropriate products, including alcohol, guns, tobacco, tanning and tattoos.
