Gov Info Security: Arlan McMillan, the chief security officer for Chicago's government, says the city employed processes established by the federal government to assure its new cloud computing initiative is secure.
Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel announced Jan. 3 that the city is adopting a cloud computing strategy for its 30,000 employees' e-mail and desktop applications. The 4-year, $3.7 million contract with Microsoft will consolidate and modernize the city's disparate e-mail systems, which will make operations more effective and secure, as well as save taxpayers $400,000 a year, the mayor said.
