20 agencies can streamline software for savings, says GAO

Federal Times: In an effort to maximize the $90 billion the federal government is expected to spend on IT in fiscal 2017, the Government Accountability Office has recommended multiple agencies take actions to address identified weaknesses in their processes for rationalizing application inventories.

Twenty federal agencies need to streamline their portfolio of software applications to improve efficiency, reduce complexity and redundancy, and lower cost, according to a GAO study released Sept. 29.
