InformationWeek: Federal Communications Commission Chairman Tom Wheeler on Wednesday said he wants to reclassify broadband providers as common carriers under Title II of the 1934 Communications Act to ensure net neutrality.
The prosposal would mean that broadband providers -- identified by the FCC as the retail broadband services that Americans buy from cable, phone and wireless providers -- would be governed under the same regulatory requirements as telecommunications companies.
