Federal Times: The White House has announced the appointment of Google executive Megan Smith to be the next federal government Chief Technology Officer (CTO) and the debate has begun about what she will – or should – do. WIRED magazine described the position as “one of the more amorphous roles in government,” noting that her immediate predecessor was defined by his efforts to salvage the Healthcare.gov roll out and more recently bringing private sector talent into government. His predecessor Anesha Chopra, filled more of an advisory role. The Post summed things up with “the CTO’s mission has been fuzzy at times.”
