WAMU: A new law that took effect this week in Maryland prohibits insurance companies from charging any co-payments for contraceptive procedures and drugs, and mandates that insurance coverage include over-the-counter contraceptives like the morning-after pill.
The law, known as the Contraceptive Equity Act, was sponsored by Montgomery County Delegate Ariana Kelly and passed the General Assembly in 2016, after which it was signed by Gov. Larry Hogan.
“What it does is ensure that Marylanders will not have cost-sharing on really any forms of contraception that they might choose,” said Kelly.
