Modern Healthcare: President Donald Trump's opioid commission on Wednesday called on the federal government to simplify the process that states use to obtain funding for drug prevention and treatment initiatives and create "drug czars" in each state to coordinate resources.
The Commission on Combating Drug Addiction and the Opioid Crisis made 53 recommendations in its final report, which which Modern Healthcare obtained Wednesday morning prior to its official release later in the day.
The commission stated block grants would simplify the process by which states applied for funding, which often requires them to seek out grants from multiple agencies. The report also called for the White House's Office of National Drug Control Policy to monitor how efficiently states use federal funding.
