Daugaard to feds: Pay Native American health care costs

Argus Leader: Gov. Dennis Daugaard wants congressional delegates to keep Native Americans in mind as they work to repeal and replace the Affordable Care Act.

He's asking the state's delegates to solidify or expand a policy that could save the state millions in Native American health care costs.

Despite government treaties guaranteeing health care for federally recognized tribes, the feds have stuck South Dakota with half the bill for Medicaid reimbursements for the state's nine tribes.

And that came out to about $85 million last year, Daugaard said.
