Healthcare IT News: The numbers are scary. Healthcare providers and payers, together with their business associates, are still failing to appropriately protect patient privacy and the security of their personal information as the number of HIPAA data breaches continues to rise. Thanks to the August 2009 Breach Notification Rule included in the HITECH Act, HIPAA-covered entities and associated businesses are required to provide notification following a data breach of protected health information.
