CMS: 44,000 Have Applied for Hardship Exemption
Healthcare Informatics: Approximately 44,000 eligible providers (EPs) have applied for a meaningful use exemption, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) confirmed to Healthcare Informatics.
The number was first reported in Politico. The exemption is for providers who will not attest to meaningful use in 2015. A CMS spokesperson told HCI that the agency is sorting through the applications and notifying each provider of their status.
