Inspector general sees savings in drug-price substitution policy
Modern Healthcare (complimentary online subscription): Medicare would have saved about $7 million in 2011 if a long-awaited CMS drug-price substitution policy had been in effect, a government watchdog concluded.
In the HHS Office of the Inspector General's latest analysis of the differences (PDF) between average sales prices for medications covered by Medicare Part B and the average manufacturer prices for those pharmaceuticals in 2011, it found at least a 5% difference among 58 types of drugs.
