OIG: Tight data hub deadline may blur security risks

Government Health IT: True to the frenetic pace of most Affordable Care Act implementation, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services is on a tight, occasionally moving deadline for security development and testing of the federal data hub, according to a review by the Office of the Inspector General.

The federal government’s service for all public insurance exchanges to verify applicants’ income and citizenship, the data hub is in the midst of its own verifications, as CMS and several contractors get set to test and eventually authorize its security for use by seven federal agencies, primarily CMS, the Internal Revenue Service, the Social Security Administration and the Department of Homeland Security.
