Times Union: Citing lower demand due to the COVID-19 pandemic and increased use of renewables, National Grid has quietly put on hold a controversial plan for a 7-mile gas pipeline that would have run under the Hudson River connecting Bethlehem and East Greenbush.
While the size and scope of the proposed line is little more than a footnote when it comes to pipeline projects, the E37 or Albany Loop proposal had become a lightning rod in the debate over continued natural gas expansion, with a number of environmental groups lining up against the plan.
