Renewable Energy World: As the U.S. offshore wind industry emerges, private and state actors alike are eager to establish critical port infrastructure. Clear strategy from the get-go, say stakeholders, can reduce costs and accelerate deployment of offshore capacity.
Multiple studies from the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) highlight substantial need for improving U.S. port capabilities in pursuit of offshore wind. Patrick Fullenkamp, director, technical services, GLWN, and lead on one such study, told Renewable Energy World that “all current U.S. ports would require infrastructure upgrades in varying degrees to accommodate efficient component transport methods to staging areas and quayside loading.”
