The Federal Solar Tax Credit Extension: Can We Win if We Lose?
Renewable Energy World: The 30%-off-solar-via-your-taxes deal has been available for almost 10 years, following an eight-year extension in 2008. It was a crucial tool. It made solar energy more cost-competitive with conventional electricity generation but by encouraging deployment of solar, it pushed hardware prices down and installer experience up (also lowering costs). The following chart shows how much the tax credit lowered the cost of solar energy in 2008 compared to 2015.
