Renewable Energy World: Clean energy alchemy is happening in Oregon, turning waste into clean, renewable energy. With technical and financial assistance from Energy Trust of Oregon and the Oregon Department of Energy, the City of Gresham Wastewater Treatment Plant’s energy management team is making this water resource recovery facility the first in the Pacific Northwest to achieve net-zero energy consumption from a combination of renewable energy production and energy-efficiency investments. In 2015, the facility will produce all its electricity from onsite renewable power using two co-generation engines fueled by biogas; increased production of biogas from the co-digestion of fats, oils and grease; and a solar electric system.
