Other factors that have also significantly reduced U.S. carbon emissions since 2005 are energy efficiency increases, expanded biofuels and replacing coal with natural gas. While renewable energy and biofuels are strongly supported by State and Federal Governments, the recent boom in natural gas production from shale reserves has faced increasing criticisms and growing political opposition.
