Could Energy Department Loans To ‘Advanced’ Fossil Fuel Projects Lead To Lower Carbon Emissions?

Climate Progress: Last week, President Obama unveiled his plan to address climate change and lower carbon emissions in his second term. Toward that goal, Energy Secretary Ernest Moniz announced Tuesday that one of the first items the department would push forward was a loan guarantee program for “advanced fossil fuel projects” that “avoid, reduce, or sequester air pollutants or greenhouse gas emissions.” This would mean $8 billion for “advanced” oil, coal, natural gas, and efficiency projects that reduce carbon emissions.
