Congress poised to pass spending, tax measures

USA Today: WASHINGTON — Congress has teed up a series of votes Friday morning to keep the federal government open through fiscal 2016 and grant billions in tax breaks, all without the drama of previous year-end budget showdowns.

It appeared late Thursday that the two measures — a $1.1 trillion catch-all spending bill and a $622 billion package of tax breaks — contain the right mix of conservative and liberal priorities to pass both chambers and win President Obama’s signature.
