Governing: For the first time in nearly three decades, public school teachers in Los Angeles are set to go on strike Monday, continuing the nationwide trend of teacher uprisings that began in West Virginia last spring.
Similar to those protesting in places like Arizona and Oklahoma, the 35,000-member United Teachers Los Angeles (UTLA) union is demanding a 6.5 percent pay increase and more classroom funding.
