U.S. News: SECRETARY OF EDUCATION Betsy DeVos ripped into state education chiefs at their annual conference Monday, slamming their K-12 accountability plans for lacking creativity and for wasting an opportunity to rethink their education systems.
"I have refrained from expressing my opinion thus far out of respect for the process," DeVos said at the Council of Chief State School Officers conference. "But since we're all in this room together now, I couldn't pass up the opportunity to share some candid thoughts. Around my house, we call it 'tough love.'"
DeVos then proceeded to dissect the proposals that states have submitted to the department in accordance with the federal education law, the Every Student Succeeds Act.
