Dallas Morning News: The House Public Education Committee on Tuesday approved a bill that would gradually lift the current cap on the number of independent charter schools in Texas beginning with the 2014-15 school year. The measure, which now heads to the full House, is similar to a charter school bill already approved by the Senate - although it would not allow as many charters to be issued by the state. The House bill would allow 10 new charter school operators in two years, with 10 additional charters each year up to a maximum of 275. The Senate bill would allow a maximum of 305 to be reached by the fall of 2019.
