Colorado is getting an additional $15 million in supplemental funding for early childhood education from the federal government.

In an announcement on Wednesday, Gov. John Hickenlooper and Lt. Gov. Joe Garcia said the funding adds to the nearly $30 million award the state received in December through the Race to the Top: Early Learning Challenge.

The money from the U.S. Department of Education and the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services will be used for efforts that include creating a highly-qualified workforce for early childhood education.
